Selena
She was a performer, artist creator, performer and also challenged boundaries in the musical world. The Mexican-American singer was still traditional. She brought Tejano into mainstream music. In the same way that most people grieve a celebrity who has died far from their prime, the death of her was premature and destroyed a growing career. Over the years, the fans became motivated to do their best to make sure that Selena's successes would not fade away. Her death in a shooting triggered an emotional response within the Latino culture that can be likened in a way to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular within Latino communities across North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect the lives of young and old alike. Selena has been called by some as the Latina Madonna, but she's still an excellent role model. Selena's off-stage family values and her participation with AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
